about

Kavalanic Languages 5/5

The fifth and final record in the Kavalanic Languages series is a trip into the deepest styles of NY/NJ house courtesy of KL’s youngest member Dominique Duverger. Duverger is from Nassau County in Long Island and, born in the early 90s, just missed the first waves of the New York house scene. Coming of age in Giuliani’s New York, Dominique stumbled upon house music wherever it could be found - Fort Greene Park, Coney Island, the odd block party here and there.

KL05 sees Duverger filter NY and NJ house through multiple tripped out and kaleidoscopic lenses, resulting in a record full of dub mixes of the dub mixes. “Dusk (Bayonne Riddim)” is a propulsive and muscular slice of house music, with billowing clouds of delayed TR-606 hats and resonating low toms peeking out of every corner. The “Barradères Version” trims things back to ride a taut and reduced groove, while the “Nassau Reduction” disintegrates the entire Kavalanic Languages project into a spectre of itself.
