about

Kavalanic Languages 4/5

H. Russell-Ashe can typically be found holed up in his Upper East Side apartment surrounded by thick rugs, velvet furniture, and maps covering nearly every available inch of wallspace. Russell-Ashe was a fixture of New York high-society as a leading psychologist and in-demand consultant for Madison Avenue, but by the late 70s his increasing interest in parapsychology led many in the academic community to condemn his work.

Gunnar Haslam got to know him some years ago through his daughter Beatriz, a fixture of the New York techno scene. He and Haslam got along very well, and living room experiments with a deck of Zener cards proved all three to have a strong psychic link (it was at Russell-Ashe’s insistance that the Zener cards are featured on the back of all Kavalanic Languages releases). Russell-Ashe has always been one to approach new ideas with an open mind, and much of his restless energy is directed towards keeping up with new music - Beatriz introduced him to some Basic Channel 12”s a couple years ago and he was hooked. As a widely admired maestro of the TB-303, Beatriz showed her father how to program it and taught him the basics of music production, the results collected here on the fourth edition of the Kavalanic Languages series.

“Vanderbilt” is a spaced-out acid love song, powerful with its twisting bassline and inducing weighty hypnosis with its wide stereo space and nearly 20 minute runtime - an ode to the grand-fêtes of his past and the love that got away. “Kivaaluun” on the flip is more even-keeled, a heads-down bubbling sea of snare drums and bass hits. Kavalanic Languages is thrilled to present this record from our favorite discredited psychologist.

*N.B. - vinyl is delayed a couple weeks - your patience is greatly appreciated!*
